Classes for kids in winter are perfect to weather the storm. Winter often feels like a long stretch of grey skies and chilly rain in Metro Vancouver, as it does in much of Canada. For kids, this season can bring restlessness, reduced outdoor play, and even a touch of winter blues. Finding the right winter activity to keep them engaged, active, and happy is important for their well-being. Kickboxing classes at Art of Kickboxing offer the perfect solution, providing a safe, exciting, and beneficial way for children to thrive during the colder months.
Our after-school classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, catering to kids ages 5 to 14. With an emphasis on fitness, social interaction, and personal growth, these sessions help children build essential skills like self-confidence, discipline, and assertiveness—all while having a blast! Plus, we have a strict no-sparring policy for our kids kickboxing program, to ensure a safe environment. Here’s why kickboxing is the ultimate winter activity for kids.
Why Kickboxing is the Perfect Winter Activity for Kids
Encourages Physical and Mental Health
Kickboxing is an activity strengthens the body and sharpens the mind. During the dreary winter months, children often experience pent-up energy and a lack of motivation. Kickboxing offers a dynamic outlet for that energy while releasing endorphins that naturally boost mood and combat stress.
The repetitive yet engaging nature of kickboxing techniques—punches, kicks, and combinations—provides an excellent workout that improves cardiovascular health, coordination, and strength. At the same time, kids leave each session feeling more confident and focused, ready to tackle school and other responsibilities.
Develops Lifelong Skills
Kickboxing is a tool for personal development. Through these classes, kids learn essential values like discipline, perseverance, and respect. They also gain self-assurance as they master new techniques and see their progress week by week. These lessons extend beyond the mat, shaping well-rounded individuals ready to face challenges in life with resilience.
A Social and Fun Experience
For children, winter can feel isolating, especially with fewer opportunities for outdoor play and social gatherings. Art of Kickboxing offers a welcoming environment where kids can bond with their peers and form lifelong connections. Group activities like these encourage teamwork, communication, and camaraderie—qualities that are especially important during a season when many feel disconnected.
