Which Fighting Style is Best for Women?
Choosing the best fighting style depends on your personal interests and goals. Some women are drawn to the beautiful art form of Jeet Kune Do or the powerful strikes of Muay Thai, while others may want the close-contact techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. But when it comes to self-defence techniques, especially against a male attacker, on average women are at a slight disadvantage due to the to the physiological differences in musculature (i.e., men typically have larger muscle mass due to biology) and added body leverage that males may have.
However, women can still gain the advantage by training to have more endurance (women might be able to tire out an aggressor) and learning practical-self defence techniques which the average person probably doesn’t know.
That’s why Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) lessons may be the smartest path for women.
Our MMA classes teach a combination of techniques from kickboxing, Muay Thai, judo, wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, giving women the flexibility to defend themselves at any range. For instance, relying solely on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu may be dangerous if you’re overpowered on the ground. Instead, starting with effective kickboxing techniques, knee strikes, or even a judo throw could give you the critical edge to create space and escape.
Our approach teaches you how to combine these martial arts disciplines fluidly — transitioning from striking to grappling, and from defence to escape. This array of fighting techniques gives you options, no matter what position you find yourself in.
How to Learn to Fight as a Woman?
Learning to fight requires both the education and the practical, hands-on martial arts lessons. The only way to truly build self-defence skills is through consistent martial arts classes or personal training where you engage in real-time drills, pad work, and partner scenarios.
At Art of Kickboxing our classes are beginner-friendly and designed for all fitness levels and skill levels. We focus on teaching from the ground up, from footwork and basic techniques, body mechanics, and realistic defence techniques, to more advanced combinations. Whether your goal is personal growth, self-defence, or even aspirations of competition, we meet you where you are.
