Personal Training: Kickboxing

Kickboxing Personal Training for Kids, Teens, and Adults: Ages 4+

Art of Kickboxing provides 1-on-1 personal training sessions in kickboxing, held at our private martial arts studio in Richmond BC. These sessions are designed to learn kickboxing, develop practical self-defence skills, improve kickboxing techniques, or provide intense martial arts-based conditioning workouts, tailored to your personal goals—whether it’s self-protection, skill mastery, or being simply interested in learning kickboxing.

You’ll work with either Head Coach Kris or Coach Jimmy, receiving step-by-step guidance through focused drills and pad work. Expect to learn proper stances, footwork, and effective self-defence techniques—punches, kicks, parries, and blocks—plus practical kickboxing combinations. Pad work sharpens your timing and power, while drills boost athletic performance and muscle endurance.

Personal Training Prices:

Personal training sessions at Art of Kickboxing can be used for any martial arts training, self-defence scenario, or specific training that Art of Kickboxing provides. They can also be used for simply getting a casual cardiovascular fitness workout in.

Each personal training session is 1 hour (60 minutes) in duration. We also provide 90-minute personal training sessions at a different rate.

For example, a 5-session pack can be used to train in something in kickboxing for one session, and then learn something from Muay Thai in the next session.

1 Session: $100/Session (1 Hour)

A single personal training session in kickboxing is perfect for those who want to train casually for fun, get in some cardio exercise, or to practice training in something specific in kickboxing.

5-Session Pack: $450 (Equivalent to $90/Session)

Five personal training sessions in kickboxing can introduce a newcomer to all the basics that kickboxing has to offer, along with helping a more experienced student master a specific technique or scenario in kickboxing.

10-Session Pack: $850 (Equivalent to $85/Session)

Ten personal training sessions in kickboxing allow a beginner to completely master the basics of kickboxing, along with starting more advanced combinations or introducing techniques from other martial arts.

12-Session Pack: $960 (Equivalent to $80/Session)

Twelve personal training sessions at Art of Kickboxing provide enough time to introduce a beginner to the basics of kickboxing, boxing, Muay Thai, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), or master the fundamentals of one of these martial arts.

If you have a specific self-defence scenario you’d like advice on how to defend yourself against, we’re open to teaching you as well. For example, you want to learn how you could defend yourself against a violent face-to-face, up-close scenario in an elevator. Feel free to let us know what you’d like to work on.

Private Kickboxing Lessons

1-on-1 Personal Kickboxing Training: What to Expect

Kickboxing Training Details: Mid-Range Martial Arts Mastery

Kickboxing is a mid-range striking martial art that combines the punches of Western boxing with powerful kicks from karate and Muay Thai. It’s ideal for mid-range self-defence scenarios. In our private kickboxing lessons, here are the unique, kickboxing-specific aspects you’ll learn:

  • Seamless Punch-Kick Combinations – Fluidly blend punches and kicks, such as the roundhouse kick and the switch kick, for offence and counterattacks. Combos like jab-cross-low kick or hook-cross-head kick are core to effective kickboxing.
  • Mid-Range & Long-Range Footwork and Angling – Master light, mobile footwork to create angles, control distance, evade strikes, and set-up combinations—distinct from the grounded stance of Muay Thai or boxing’s linear movement.
  • Complete Striking Defence & Counters – Develop your guard, head movement, and counter-timing against both punches and kicks. You’ll learn how to block, slip, catch, and counter against all striking martial arts effectively.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What Times are Available for Personal Training Sessions?

Personal training is typically available anytime that we are not holding classes, which means you can expect times around 10:00am-3:00pm, Monday-Saturday. We’re very flexible at Art of Kickboxing, let us know what times you’d like to come in for personal training, and we’ll let you know if that time is available. See our class training schedule.

2. Can I combine different martial arts (like Muay Thai or BJJ) within my personal training sessions?

Yes! It’s up to you what you’d like to focus on during your personal training sessions, but we can only generally focus on one request per training session. Many students cross-train by mixing in techniques or scenarios from Muay Thai, boxing, BJJ, or MMA—especially in longer packs like the 10 or 12-session options.

3. Can two people share a personal training session if we both want to train together?

For those who want to train together privately, we offer private 2-person group sessions at a different rate. See here for the pricing options. Two-person group sessions are a great option for siblings, parents and kids, couples, or friends training at the same level.

4. What’s the difference between personal training and regular group classes at Art of Kickboxing?

Personal training is fully tailored to what you want to focus on, your goals, pace, and skill level. Group classes follow a structured curriculum and incorporate partnered pad work with different students. In private sessions, you get personalized, detailed corrections, flexible scheduling, and focused attention that’s hard to match in a group environment. They’re great for people who have accessibility needs, such as debilitating health conditions, or even social anxiety.

5. How is kickboxing different from Muay Thai or traditional boxing?

Kickboxing focuses on punches and kicks, combining the fluid handwork of boxing with effective karate-style and Muay Thai-inspired kicks. Unlike Muay Thai, kickboxing generally doesn’t use elbows or extended clinching. Compared to boxing, it trains a wider range of striking tools and emphasizes mid- to long-range movement and combinations involving both the hands and legs. It’s a striking art that’s fast-paced, versatile, and great for fitness, self-defence, or sport.
