Boxing Personal Training & Coaching in Richmond BC

Personal Training: Boxing

Boxing Personal Training for Kids, Teens, and Adults: Ages 4+

Art of Kickboxing provides 1-on-1 personal training sessions in boxing, held at our private martial arts studio in Richmond BC. These sessions are designed to learn boxing, develop practical self-defence skills, improve boxing techniques, or provide intense martial arts-based conditioning workouts, tailored to your personal goals—whether it’s for self-defence, skill mastery, or simply being interested in learning boxing. Personal training is also great for those with accessibility needs or debilitating health conditions, where they may need more time than others to learn.

You’ll train with either Head Coach Kris or Coach Jimmy, receiving step-by-step guidance through focused drills and pad work.

Expect to learn proper stances, footwork, and effective self-defence techniques—punches, parries, blocks, rolling and slipping, plus learning practical boxing combinations effective for violent self-defence scenarios.

Unlike kickboxing or Muay Thai, boxing focuses entirely on punches, allowing faster mastery of punching, punching timing, and defensive combinations that combine punches and evasive skills.

Personal Training Prices:

Personal training sessions at Art of Kickboxing can be used for any martial arts training, self-training scenario, or specific training that Art of Kickboxing provides. They can also be used for simply getting a casual cardiovascular fitness workout in.

For example, a 5-session pack can be used to train in something in boxing for one session, and then learn something from kickboxing or Muay Thai in the next session.

1-Session: $100/Session

A single personal training session in boxing is perfect for those who want to train casually for fun, get in some cardio exercise, or practice training in something specific in boxing.

5-Session Pack: $450 (Equivalent to $90/Session)

Five personal training sessions in boxing can introduce a newcomer to the basics of boxing, such as the types of punches and how to slip and roll, along with helping a more experienced student master a specific technique or scenario in boxing.

10-Session Pack: $850 (Equivalent to $85/Session)

Ten personal training sessions in boxing allow a beginner to become adept at the basics of boxing, including knowing how to perform the six fundamental punches: the jab, cross, lead hook, rear hook, lead uppercut, and rear uppercut. These punches form the core of all combinations and are essential for developing effective offense, timing, and close-range control.

Ten personal training sessions are also enough to introduce more advanced boxing combinations or techniques from other martial arts.

12-Session Pack: $960 (Equivalent to $80/Session)

Twelve personal training sessions at Art of Kickboxing provide enough time to introduce a beginner to martial arts to the basics of multiple martial arts, including: boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), or master the fundamentals of one of these martial arts.

If you have a specific self-defence scenario you’d like advice on how to defend yourself against, we’re open to teaching you as well. For example, you want to learn how you could defend yourself against a violent face-to-face, up-close scenario in an elevator. Feel free to let us know what you’d like to work on.

1-on-1 Personal Boxing Training: What to Expect

Boxing Training Details: Short-Range Martial Arts Mastery

Boxing is a close-range striking martial art built around chess-like fight IQ, precise punches, sharp head movement, and smart footwork. Its defensive aspects are great for violent self-defence scenarios where things get aggressively up close and personal, and you’re unable to escape from the aggressor. In our private boxing sessions, you’ll develop skills unique to the sweet science:

  • Accurate & Compact Striking Combinations – Learn to deliver fast, fluid punch combinations like jab-cross-hook or uppercut-hook-cross. You’ll master chaining punches together for offense, pressure, and counterattacks in short-range exchanges.
  • Short-Range Footwork & Angling – Train in footwork designed for boxing’s tight spaces—side steps, pivots, and L-steps that create angles, close distance, or evade incoming shots. Unlike kick-heavy arts, boxing emphasizes balance and explosive movement in tight quarters.
  • Elite Defensive Skills & Counters – Build a strong defense through guard work, head movement (slips, rolls, and pulls), and precise timing. You’ll learn to neutralize punches with blocks and evasions—and respond instantly with counterstrikes, turning defense into offence through parries.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What Times are Available for Personal Training Sessions?

Personal training is typically available anytime that we are not holding classes, which means you can expect times around 10:00am-3:00pm, Monday-Saturday. We’re very flexible at Art of Kickboxing, let us know what times you’d like to come in for personal training, and we’ll let you know if that time is available. See our class training schedule.

2. Can I combine different martial arts (like Kickboxing or Muay Thai) within my personal training sessions?

Yes! It’s up to you what you’d like to focus on during your personal training sessions, but we can only generally focus on one request per training session. Many students cross-train by mixing in techniques or scenarios from Muay Thai, kickboxing, BJJ, or MMA—especially in longer packs like the 10 or 12-session options.

3. Can two people share a personal training session if we both want to train together?

For those who want to train together privately, we offer private 2-person group sessions at a different rate. See here for the pricing options. Two-person group sessions are a great option for siblings, parents and kids, couples, or friends training at the same level.

4. What’s the difference between personal training and regular group classes at Art of Kickboxing?

Personal training is fully tailored to what you want to focus on, your goals, pace, and skill level. Group classes follow a structured curriculum and incorporate partnered pad work with different students. In private sessions, you get personalized, detailed corrections, flexible scheduling, and focused attention that’s hard to match in a group environment. They’re great for people who have accessibility needs, such as debilitating health conditions, or even social anxiety.

5. Why Train in Boxing instead of Kickboxing or Muay Thai?

Boxing places a much greater emphasis on head movement, slipping, rolling, and creating angles—making it ideal for developing refined defensive skills and evasive footwork. While kickboxing and Muay Thai spread your focus across punches, kicks, knees, and elbows, boxing allows you to specialize in mastering the nuances of upper-body movement, such as avoiding strikes with minimal effort and countering from sharp angles. If your goal is to become highly skilled at dodging punches and reading opponents at close range, training in boxing is for you.
