Accessibility Statement

Effective Date: December 1st, 2024

Art of Kickboxing’s core values includes being welcoming and inclusive, and due to this we’ve developed an accessible environment for individuals of all abilities. We work hard to exceed standard accessibility expectations and are continuously improving access to our programs as best we can. Our efforts are guided by applicable Canadian accessibility legislation and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

Website Accessibility

We are actively working to enhance the accessibility and usability of our website to ensure a comfortable user experience for all users. While some features may still be in development, we are committed to implementing continuous improvements to remove barriers wherever possible.

Accessible Communication Formats

Art of Kickboxing is one of the few businesses in Canada to provide multiple accessible methods of communication including:

  • Talking on the phone
  • Text messaging
  • WhatsApp messaging
  • Email communication

These communication formats provide a significant level of accessibility allowing more comfortable, flexible, and non-intimidating methods of signing up for memberships or personal training sessions at Art of Kickboxing.

Facility Accessibility

Our Richmond facility is designed to be safe, inclusive, and welcoming for all students. The training area features protective mats, allowing participants to train comfortably without the need for specialized footwear. We provide protective gear such as gloves and shin guards when needed to ensure safety during practice.

The space is equipped with air conditioning for hot summer weather, a clean all-gender washroom, and seating for parents or guardians. For health and safety, we maintain a fully stocked first aid kit, an automated external defibrillator (AED), and a fire extinguisher on site for medical emergencies.

Training Accessibility

For individuals with debilitating health conditions or accessibility requirements, please let us know ahead of time, and we will do our best to accommodate you in our classes. Additionally, we provide one-on-one personal training sessions. These sessions provide a more flexible and comfortable learning experience to help you safely learn self-defence and train in martial arts at your own pace.

For those with exercise-related medical risks: Although our classes and personal training sessions are very safe, and light sparring is strictly optional in our Youth & Adult classes (sparring is strictly not allowed in our Kids Classes), please consult a medical doctor to inquire whether intense exercise or martial arts training is safe for you before starting training.
